average japanese farmer: 65 years old
sea temperature change: +1.28 deg C
self sufficiency rate: 38 percent
which leads us to the most pressing question of all...
will we still be able to eat sushi in the future?
as japan faces two macro drivers simeltaneously (climate change and aging population), what does the future of food look like?
we designed two artifacts from the future. a sushi box with abnormally large rice and a newspaper highlighting top food stories.
by experiencing the future with all five senses, how might japan navigate through this food (in)secure crisis. what strategies can we take on a personal, business, and policy level to satiate our desire for sushi? what can we start doing today to redirect this crisis? in addition, how might our food culture and value systems change with respect to these ongoing changes?
